The Alberta Real Estate Association is providing realtors across the province with a new app for their safety.

The association announced on Tuesday that each of its 10,500 plus members will receive the LifeLine Response safety application with the ability to contact emergency responders with the touch of a button.

“Realtors love helping their clients with the largest and most important purchases of their lives, but the job requires us to sometimes work alone in unfamiliar locations and with relative strangers,” said Jennifer Gilbert, AREA chair, in a news release. “The LifeLine Response app is an important tool in improving realtor safety.”

Lifeline responseThe association said member subscriptions to LifeLine Response are included within existing membership dues at no additional cost.

“A recent event in Calgary highlighted the need for further member safety support. Recent technology improvements have addressed the shortcomings of earlier safety applications,” said the association.

AREA said that following extensive research, it’s confident that LifeLine Response – a mobile safety application for iPhone and Android users – will provide realtors with an extra layer of protection.

The app will allow realtors to alert their personal support network or summon emergency responders to their GPS location.

The application also allows its users to view threat notifications in their area, increasing their situational awareness while on the job, it said.

AREA is the not-for-profit professional association representing the interests of more than 10,500 realtors and 10 local real estate boards and associations in the province.
