In just 5 months, the Swan Hills Sharks Swim Club has taken to competition style swimming like sharks to water.

The Swan Hills Sharks Swim Club has been training hard through the fall and winter, learning the basic strokes and techniques of competition-style swimming through beginner drills. They began tying it all together on Monday to prepare for an upcoming fun meet.

There was an earlier iteration of the club in Swan Hills that was last active roughly 13 years ago. After earning her certification as a swim coach last year, Crystal Zuk revived the swim club this past fall and currently has 17 swim team members between the ages of 7 and 14. Prospective members had to be able to swim a full pool length without assistance in order to join. Fast-forward about five months, and they have all come a long way from such humble beginnings.

The Sharks’ next step is to register with Swim Alberta, which will enable them to participate in official swim meets with other swim clubs.

The Sharks are very thankful for the local businesses that helped them get started by sponsoring their club and allowing them to purchase flippers, a whiteboard, and other equipment. They have also been fundraising to purchase additional equipment, such as hand paddles and team-coloured swimsuits.

Watch for the club’s upcoming events including the Fun Meet on April 13 and a Swim-A-Thon on April 25.
