family day activities

Family Day weekend was a warm one! While the weather was gorgeous, with clear, blue skies and barely a cloud in sight, there wasn’t much snow on the ground, making for an odd February weekend. Even with the unseasonable lack of snow, there were still plenty of happy smiling faces to be seen as the Swan Hills community took part in the Family Day activities.

There was a good-sized audience to watch Wall-E at the library. The adults and youth were quite content watching the movie, but many of the younger children were drawn to the toys and games at the back of the room, having a great time playing quietly with their friends while taking in the show.

The fireworks display on Sunday night was one of the best that Swan Hills has ever had, and that’s saying a lot!

The festivities on Monday started with a tasty breakfast at the 50+ building, with 74 people dropping in to start their holiday Monday with the most important meal of the day. Then, it was off to Edith Lake to take part in Family Day ice fishing, with a collection of holes having already been drilled through the ice and ready to go. It was a beautiful sunny day, warm enough that some people were comfortable in T-shirts! A roaring campfire completed the scene with hot dogs to roast and hot chocolate and candy bags from FCSS and FRN.

Family Day weekend in Swan Hills was an absolute delight! Despite the unusual lack of snow, the community came together for a weekend filled with fun and laughter.
